The National Foundation for Gun Rights, the legal branch of the National Association for Gun Rights, is the nation’s largest “no compromise” pro-gun organization, with 4.5 million members nationwide. Unlike other gun rights organizations that will give your rights away piecemeal, the NAGR does not compromise with the anti-gun oath breakers in D.C. and state legislatures.
The NAGR has called on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Attorney General Ashley Moody, and the Florida Legislature to address the state prohibition on open carry of firearms.
“For years, the State of Florida has unconstitutionally banned the exercise of the open carry of firearms. Florida recently had the opportunity to correct this statutory error and bring Florida’s Code of Laws into alignment with the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution by repealing the open carry prohibition along with the enactment of permit less concealed carry, but Florida’s lawmakers failed to do so,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights in his letter addressing the parties.
“Should the Florida Legislature fail to take action in the next legislative session to remove this unconstitutional infringement on Floridians’ right to bear arms, the National Foundation for Gun Rights will explore all legal options to force the State of Florida to comply with the Second Amendment in the federal courts in order to protect the constitutional rights of her citizens,” warns Brown.
The constitutional carry fight in Florida has continued for years, with State Representative Anthony Sabatini trying to get it passed in Florida. Sabatini filed legislation four years in a row but was constantly thwarted by the RINOs in the House, particularly Chris Sprowls, who kept his bill from a vote. Sabatini went to Twitter and said, “RINO cowards like @chrissprowls are once again BLOCKING Constitutional Carry!”
Senate President Wilton Simpson, who is now Florida’s Secretary of Agriculture, was allegedly behind the scenes with Sprowls and other RINOs to stop the bill but was publicly stating,“If a constitutional carry bill gets to the Senate floor, and it’s heard on the Senate floor, I would vote yes. I would support that on the floor.”
That’s a lot of conditions, and of course, constitutional carry never made it to the Senate floor. In 2023, the Florida RINOs claimed victory and passed a watered-down permit less carry version, much to the dismay of gun owners.
NAGR has warned that if Florida does not comply with the Second Amendment, there will be hell to pay.
