Jaws dropped as one Democrat politician said the most outrageous thing ever.
He made a disgustingly racist comment about gun owners.
Now Democrats are hiding with embarrassment and this politician is hanging his head in shame.
The Second Amendment is a universal right that applies to all adult Americans, regardless of their race, gender, or other characteristics.
This is what true gun rights supporters believe. It is such a fundamental right that it cannot be denied to any law-abiding citizen, certainly not on account of the color of their skin.
But one top Democrat in New Jersey apparently does not see it that way.
Democrats like to flap their arms about “racial justice,” but in many cases, they are the biggest racists of them all.
And while Rep. John McKeon of New Jersey is an anti-gunner who wants guns taken away from everybody, he seems to especially want them taken away from black and Hispanic people, who he seems to consider extra dangerous.
He made a comment in the New Jersey Assembly that set off a firestorm of controversy and got him in some serious hot water.
According to Bearing Arms, “When last year’s so-called ‘carry-killer’ bill was introduced, the cretins in Trenton showed a fair amount of their true colors. And ‘color’ is a perfect topic considering the racist remarks that Democratic Assemblyman John ‘Jim Crow’ McKeon made during the hearings on the bill.”
The article continues, “During a committee hearing, another Assemblyman pointed out that the concealed carry fees that were being proposed – which went into effect mind you – were exorbitant. The unconstitutionality of the fee hikes is an entirely other matter; this is about McKeon’s reaction to his friend on the other side suggesting potential programs/grants for those who cannot afford to go through the licensing process to get a firearm, never-the-less carry one.”
Here’s what McKeon said that was so grotesquely racist: “Does anybody really want to put more guns in the hands of people that live in Paterson and Newark and Elizabeth and Camden, to say here, all the money you’re charging isn’t fair. That will make things safer.”
Paterson, Newark, Elizabeth, and Camden are some of the most heavily black and Hispanic cities in the state of New Jersey. McKeon is afraid of having guns in those cities because he is afraid of minorities having guns, plain and simple.
The Bearing Arms article sums it up nicely: “McKeon made it clear he does not think it’s okay for ‘those people’ to have access to firearms.”
But under the Constitution of the United States, everyone is entitled to have access to firearms, provided that they are a law-abiding adult.
McKeon’s feelings about other races are his problem that he apparently needs to work through and should not affect the law.
McKeon is backpedaling now, co-sponsoring an “interracial marriage” bill to pander to the people he insulted, even though interracial marriage is under no threat anywhere.
But he cannot erase the words that he said. He apparently does not want “certain” kinds of people to own guns.
