Congress has attacked the gun rights of American service members.
They are trying to take guns away from those who are defending our nation.
And this attack is being initiated by an anti-gun Republican.
One of the tropes of gun control supporters is that guns simply cannot be trusted in the hands of ordinary citizens, and they should only be reserved for police and the military.
While that is an outrageous and dangerous point of view, since the whole point of the Second Amendment is to give the people power against the government, these gun grabbers are also proving themselves to be hypocrites on that point.
They are now attacking the gun rights of the very same military members who they claim should be the only ones to have access to guns.
Congress is using one recent mass shooting as an excuse to attack U.S. troops and take their guns away.
Susan Collins, the allegedly “Republican” senator from Maine, introduced a bill to apply red flag laws to service members and veterans.
She ostensibly did this in response to the recent Maine shooting, although it is fair to wonder if she wanted to do this all along.
According to Bearing Arms, “Red flag laws are touted as the answer to mass shootings. There’s no evidence that they’re any such thing, of course, but that has never stopped anti-gun voices from trying to push that tired line.
“The Lewiston shooting is just one example of how laws we’re told will mitigate the risk don’t actually do anything.
“Maine’s law is referred to as a yellow flag law–because I guess that sounds better than red flag–requires mental health experts to ask for someone’s guns to be taken and while such experts saw the man who would eventually become the killer, they didn’t do anything.
“Regardless, Maine’s Sen. Susan Collins wants to apply that to US military personnel.”
Collins does not simply want this to apply to Maine, but in fact the entire United States Armed Forces.
Here is what Breitbart had to say in the article linked by Bearing Arms: “Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) is putting together legislation to require the U.S. military to adhere to state-level red and yellow flag laws for troops.”
“Collins bill comes in response to the October 25, 2023, Lewiston, Maine, attacks, which were carried out by a member of the U.S. Army Reserve.”
U.S. service members should be outraged that Sen. Collins is treating them all like potential mass shooters just because of the actions of one deranged man.
These are the people who risk their lives defending our nation, and now they are all being treated with suspicion.
Susan Collins should withdraw this bill immediately, as it is an unwarranted attack on our Second Amendment.
And furthermore, she should apologize to all of the men and women in the military who she has insulted by filing this legislation.
U.S. troops are brave heroes, not potential mass shooters. And they should not be treated with suspicion just because of what one man did
