Gun control lobbyists are taking aim at one congressman who did something brave.
He made an effort to stop the government from spying on gun owners.
Now he is facing the wrath of gun grabbers everywhere.
There is perhaps no bigger threat to the Constitution right now than so-called “big data,” the collection and sharing of information on private citizens.
This is an especially big problem for gun owners, who are under constant suspicion by the government, which views them as potentially dangerous and desires to control them.
Private data brokers have taken the information collected on gun owners and sold it to federal law enforcement, which they have the capacity to use to crack down on gun owners who have done nothing wrong.
This practice is destroying the Second Amendment and the Fourth Amendment, and it needs to be stopped immediately if America is still going to have a Constitution.
Thankfully, Rep. Warren Davidson of Ohio is trying to stop this practice, and he is making it a top priority.
He is pushing Republican leadership to do something to shut down the transfer of data on gun owners to federal law enforcement.
According to Politico, “House Speaker Mike Johnson is facing another challenge as he tries to navigate an already tricky spy powers fight: an effort within his own ranks to link upcoming legislation to gun rights.
“Rep. Warren Davidson is circulating a letter to Johnson and Majority Leader Steve Scalise urging them to use a revived debate over controversial surveillance power to also prevent data brokers from selling consumer information to law enforcement.
“And the Ohio Republican is weaving in another hot button issue, arguing that without changes, gun owners are at risk of being negatively impacted.”
Here is what Davidson had to say: “It is vital that any forthcoming legislation Section 702 … close the data broker loophole. Congress now has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to update our laws to protect Americans’ liberty, Americans’ right to privacy and the Second Amendment.”
The article goes on to say that Speaker Johnson and other Republican leaders are not happy that Davidson is pushing this issue so hard, viewing it as a “hurdle” in their efforts to pass legislation allowing the government to spy on Americans.
“It’s the latest potential hurdle for Johnson. House Republicans are hoping to bring a revived bill to change and reauthorize Section 702 to the floor this week. The surveillance power is meant to target foreigners abroad but has come under fire because of its ability to sweep in Americans data.”
Spy agencies are technically supposed to only go after foreign targets, but that is simply not what happens in reality.
Their powers are being used to track sensitive data of American citizens.
And gun owners are one of the top targets of that tracking, as they are constantly under fire from the Feds, with an entire agency – the ATF – dedicated to harassing them.
Rep. Davidson’s effort is crucial to preserving the Constitution and stopping the government’s persecution of gun owners.
