The tide is starting to turn against the gun control lobby.
Gun-grabbing politicians are realizing they are in political danger.
And the gun rights movement is starting to gain traction as they seek to undo a hideous law.
Despite the fact that it is in the Northeast, a part of the country where gun ownership is low, Maine is a state that has a strong gun culture.
Like other northern New England states such as New Hampshire and Vermont, it has constitutional carry laws.
Due to its rural culture, many Mainers strongly value their Second Amendment rights and object to any attempt to strip them of their firearms.
That’s why the state’s new three-day waiting period law for gun sales, which is currently being implemented in the state, is so controversial.
Maine gun owners are shocked that their state government has betrayed them in this way, and they are coming together to fight back against this unjust law.
Now the gun grabbers are on their heels as they are realizing they will have to defend this law in court, where many gun control proposals have been struck down.
According to The Truth About Guns, “Back in April, anti-gun lawmakers in the Pine Tree State passed a measure requiring a 72-hour waiting period for gun purchasers before they can be transferred a gun they have purchased, even after passing the FBI’s federal background check. Passage took a barrage of procedural games, and then Gov. Janet Mills didn’t act upon the legislation, cowardly letting it become law without her signature.”
Mills knew that the law wasn’t going to be popular, and she didn’t want to put her name on it, even though she clearly supported it.
That’s why she took the weaselly way out and simply let her veto window expire.
Businesses that are affected by this are outraged. They are getting ready to fight this in any way they can.
One trading post had this to say: “We are a destination store in a tourist state and 55% of our visits are unique each year. We will be vigorously supporting the lawsuit against the State of Maine on this legislation. If this law is implemented, we will be forced to move our entire firearms business to New Hampshire.”
The article continues, “The pro-gun group Gun Owners of Maine is preparing to fight the state’s newly implemented three-day waiting period in court, but that fight is going to take money.”
If Maine gun owners succeed at defeating this law in court, it is going to send shockwaves throughout the gun control lobby, which is not accustomed to suffering defeats on their most precious pieces of gun control legislation.
Supporters of the Second Amendment in Maine know how important this is.
It is an opportunity to send a message, not just in Maine but in other states as well, that there are political consequences to passing gun control.
It is very important for the future of the Second Amendment that this lawsuit succeeds.
