It is a dark time for the gun community in New York.
One of the most historic gun factories in America has closed its doors.
And their demise was caused by constant threats and bullying by anti-gun New York politicians.
Remington Arms is one of the most famous and historic gun manufacturers in the entire country, and for years they have been based out of a small town in upstate New York called Ilion.
This is where the founder of the company, Eliphalet Remington II, set up shop in 1816, and it operated out of that location for the next two centuries.
But in the wake of constant harassment from New York officials, the company, which was already forced to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2020, has decided to close its last factory in New York.
And while anti-gun politicians are almost certainly celebrating the destruction of this piece of American history, the gun community in New York is devastated by the loss.
This closure will cost hundreds of people their jobs, but that apparently does not matter to the politicians who are happy to see another gut punch to the Second Amendment.
According to the Washington Times, “A New York Republican calls this ‘tragic news’ — and she remains distressed about the loss of a historic and significant business in the Empire State.”
The Republican, Rep. Elise Stefanik, had this to say: “Due to New York State’s radical anti-Second Amendment policies and disastrous business climate, they have run Remington Arms, the country’s oldest gun manufacturer, out of New York State. The Ilion Remington plant opened its doors in 1828 and is one of the largest employers in Herkimer County in NY-21.”
“It is because of New York Democrats’ unconstitutional gun grab policies that the oldest gun manufacturer in the country has been run out of the state.”
The article reports that the factory will be permanently shut down in three months, at which point hundreds of employees will lose their jobs.
A report from the Utica Observer-Dispatch confirmed that, saying “RemArms, the current version of Remington Arms, will close its Ilion facility in early March, according to a letter the company sent union officials.”
The letter said this about the closure: “The Company expects that operations at the Ilion Facility will conclude on or about March 4, 2024. The Company did not arrive at this decision lightly.”
Democrats are not only taking a hacksaw to the Second Amendment, they are destroying American history in the process.
And on top of it, they are costing working people their jobs just to spite gun owners and the gun community.
This may win votes from their progressive anti-gun base, but it does nothing to help the state of New York.
Forcing this historic site to close will almost certainly impact the local economy in upstate New York.
The politicians who forced this to happen may get an unpleasant surprise when they have to face their constituents for re-election, many of whom will be newly unemployed because of their anti-gun extremism.
