This new law is going to be a disaster for gun rights.
It is a brazen attack on the Second Amendment.
And gun owners are extremely concerned about what’s going to happen when it takes effect.
The Supreme Court has made it abundantly clear that the right to bear arms is a core liberty protected by the Bill of Rights that legislative bodies cannot infringe.
But states like Massachusetts continue to chip away at the Second Amendment regardless, in blatant defiance of the Supreme Court.
Even though Massachusetts is a very liberal state, no state is completely monolithic. There are still hundreds of thousands of gun owners in Massachusetts.
Those people deserve the protection of the law just as much as any gun owners does in any other state. They are entitled to the same constitutional rights that someone in Oklahoma is.
Unfortunately, their state government does not seem to respect that, and they have passed a law that will be extremely harmful to gun rights in Massachusetts.
And while this law will almost certainly be challenged in court, and may not hold up, it is going to do some real damage in the meantime.
According to Guns.com, “Lawmakers in ‘The Bay State’ last week agreed on a massive 111-page package of gun control measures that 2A advocates describe as radical.
“The bill, H. 4885, was reported out of conference on July 18 in a 124 to 33 roll call, largely along party lines. A three-page summary of the bill details that it implements a variety of new arbitrary bans on certain firearms, creates a gun registry, enacts extreme training requirements for those seeking to possess legal firearms, and buries licensed gun dealers in the Commonwealth in new layers of bureaucratic red tape.”
Anti-gun Democrats are very excited about this bill, as they see it as model gun control legislation that they hope the entire country will eventually follow.
They are unconcerned about the fact that it attacks a core constitutional right, as many of them don’t believe the Second Amendment should even be in the Constitution.
Here is what the Democrat House Speaker, Ron Mariano, had to say: “This agreement is the most significant gun safety legislation that Massachusetts has seen in a decade. It is the culmination of a multi-year process that began once the Supreme Court’s conservative supermajority issued their disastrous Bruen decision, after which the House began a comprehensive review of how that ruling would impact Massachusetts, and of the Commonwealth’s gun laws generally.”
They have so little respect for the Supreme Court that instead of complying with the Court’s decision, they went in completely the opposite direction and passed even stricter gun control.
America’s entire system of government depends on checks and balances, and the Supreme Court’s decision is supposed to be final.
But lawmakers in Massachusetts are apparently so committed to making their state a completely gun-free zone, that they are willing to ignore what the Supreme Court said and attack gun rights anyway.
