People’s livelihoods could be destroyed.
Businesses will be forced to shut down.
One crackdown on guns could ruin the firearms industry.
Under Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, New Mexico has become the epicenter of the left-wing war on gun owners.
She has decided that the best way for her to achieve political notoriety is by positioning herself as the most radical anti-gun politician in America.
In doing so, she thinks she can get plaudits from the media for going where no other politician is willing to go and actually declaring the Second Amendment null and void.
She already attempted to ban the carry of all guns in Albuquerque and the surrounding areas. And now she is trying to launch a statewide crackdown that could ruin the gun industry in her state.
Many people in New Mexico own gun stores and depend on the sale of guns to feed their families. But they will end up being collateral damage in Gov. Grisham’s scheme to elevate her political career.
Now, these people are speaking out about what could happen to them if Gov. Grisham gets her way and attacks gun rights.
According to Bearing Arms, “The 30-day New Mexico legislative session is underway in Santa Fe, and a bill that the New Mexico Firearms Industry Association says would kill the state’s lawful commerce in arms is set for its first House hearing on Tuesday. HB 114, billed as the ‘Firearm Industry Accountability Act,’ is more honestly described as the Firearms Industry Eradication Act, according to Albuquerque gun store owner and NMFIA president Erik Rasmussen.”
Rasmussen went into detail in his column about the dangers of Grisham’s new crackdown.
“Section 3 creates the unique crime of ‘falsely advertising’ a firearm product, which is not the same as an unconscionable or unfair trade practice. It is defined as advertising that is misleading in any material respect or that fails to reveal relevant facts. This could be applied to an industry member claiming a firearm is effective for home defense.”
“Section 5 creates a ‘harming the public’ civil violation applicable only to the firearms industry. This extremely broad provision states that a member of the firearms industry cannot knowingly or recklessly create or contribute to anything affecting any number of citizens that could ‘negatively impact public health, safety or welfare through the sale, manufacturing, making, importing, advertising or marketing of a firearm product.’ Of course, the proponents of this legislation believe every legal action by any member of the industry negatively impacts public safety.”
It’s clear that the purpose of this legislation is to make it so legally risky to run a gun store that no one wants to do it, for fear of the lawsuits that one might have to face.
The end result that New Mexico politicians are hoping for is that the firearms industry shuts down in their state and no one can get a gun.
New Mexico is attacking the very foundation of the Second Amendment in a way that even the most fervently anti-gun politicians have never dreamed of.
