Politicians are finally starting to receive consequences for attacking the Constitution.
For years, they have taken away people’s gun rights and faced no repercussions.
But that is changing, and one politician just got a nasty punishment for her role in pushing gun control.
Washington, D.C., is one of the most anti-gun cities in America, so much so that they were the focal point of the famous Heller decision that struck down their handgun ban.
They tried to strip their residents of their Second Amendment rights completely and had to be forced by the Supreme Court to stop.
But they certainly never expected to have to face any consequences for what they did. After all, politicians routinely violate the Constitution and they never have to face the music for their actions.
But times are changing, and now the city of Washington, D.C. and their mayor, Muriel Bowser, are in big trouble for stripping their citizens of their rights.
Bowser is a far-left politician who has been mayor of the city since 2015, and served on the council since 2007, dating back to before the Heller decision when D.C. had banned handguns.
Now her city is having to pay up after a lawsuit related to people who were arrested for peacefully owning guns.
According to TopClassActions.com, “Washington, D.C., agreed to pay $5.1 million to resolve a class action lawsuit claiming that it unconstitutionally arrested people for carrying guns outside their homes, violating gun control laws.
“The settlement benefits individuals who were arrested and/or prosecuted by the District of Columbia through its Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) for violation of the district’s gun control laws outside of their home or place of business between May 15, 2012, and Oct. 10, 2014.”
This was during Bowser’s tenure on the City Council, and it’s clear that at a minimum, she did nothing to stop these arrests from taking place.
The article continues, “To be eligible for the settlement, an individual must not have had a felony conviction before their arrest or prosecution, been convicted of domestic violence misdemeanor within the preceding five years of their arrest or prosecution, been subject to a judicial order regarding firearm possession at the time of their arrest or prosecution or have been convicted of a felony or violent misdemeanor resulting from their arrest.
“Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim Washington, D.C.’s gun control laws, which prohibited individuals from carrying firearms outside of their home or place of business, were unconstitutional. The class action lawsuit challenges arrests and prosecutions resulting from these laws.
“The District of Columbia previously passed laws that made it illegal to carry handguns in public and effectively barred non-residents from carrying guns within the district.”
Perhaps politicians elsewhere will look to what is happening in Washington, D.C., and the price the city is having to pay, and think twice before passing unconstitutional gun control laws of their own.
This is a major victory for gun owners everywhere, as finally politicians are being held accountable for passing laws in violation of the Second Amendment.
