Chaos has erupted between police and gun grabbers.
The government is forcing police to implement a dangerous new gun control law.
But the police are furious about it, and they are pushing back hard.
When gun control laws pass, police are usually the ones who are tasked with enforcing them and actually going in and taking away people’s guns.
But in some cases, the officers themselves aren’t in favor of the laws, and have no interest in actually taking away guns from innocent civilians who have done nothing wrong.
Generally speaking, they end up doing what they’re told. That will likely end up being the case in Michigan as well. But the police in Michigan are not happy about what they’re being asked to do.
Michigan passed a sweeping new gun control law after Democrats took full control of state government under Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
Now they are demanding that police start implementing it immediately, but many of these officers are worried that the implementation will be dangerous.
They know that gun owners don’t plan to give up their guns so easily, and they are turning against the politicians who are forcing them to do it.
According to the Detroit News, “Three laws meant to keep guns from minors and those considered a risk to themselves or others will take effect in Michigan Tuesday, but their actual implementation is expected to take time as police, prosecutors and the courts become familiar with the new rules.”
“Law enforcement and court officials said there will be a learning curve in the first few weeks of the laws’ taking effect, in part because the early adjournment of session last year meant the state court system had a shorter period of time to develop rules for one of the largest pieces of the legislation. Final court rules regarding the Extreme Risk Protection Order Act, sometimes referred to as a red flag law, were issued Feb. 6, a week before the law was set to take effect.”
One official, State Court Administrator Tom Boyd, had this to say: “Changes like this often have implementation periods, and this one just doesn’t.”
In other words, the officers are being asked to simply start taking away guns right away now that the law is in effect.
The article continues, “Law enforcement officials expressed some misgivings about the red flag law, specifically related to its potential misuse against officers who have to carry firearms as a condition of employment and the law’s dependence on law enforcement to carry out the confiscation of guns.”
Politicians should stop putting law enforcement in these types of situations. If they want to take guns away, they should do it themselves.
While it is not likely that this will happen, perhaps the officers in Michigan will decide collectively to ignore the state and refuse to enforce this tyrannical new law.
That would make it nearly impossible for the politicians who supported it to actually get the result they’re looking for, which is the disarmament of Michigan citizens.
